We Knew Jack

I made this small tribute to Jack Layton, an inspiring Canadian politician who recently lost his battle with cancer. (Here is the Guardian’s obituary.)

Jack inspired many people who were otherwise cynical about politics.

At Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square where these pictures were taken, there were messages in many languages, farewells from members of all kinds of  groups, and thank-yous for Jack’s broad range of contributions to Canadian society.

Jack made many causes his own, and fought for them as though he himself was experiencing others’ inequity, discrimination, and marginalization. That is rare and admirable.

I extend my condolences to his wife Olivia. We miss him too.
